Rumor has it that Apple could unveil the sixth-generation iPad mini in the first half of 2021. Now a report is making the rounds that suggests an "iPad mini Pro."
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last year that we can expect a new iPad mini in the first half of 2021. Now there is a new rumor that puts a new twist on things. Some of the information given today matches what we have already read. But the Korean blog explains that Apple an iPad mini Pro and not an iPad mini 6. This statement naturally causes confusion. As a reminder: The iPad mini was last fundamentally updated in 2015. Although the device received a small update in 2019 with the A12 Bionic chip, a True Tone display, Bluetooth 5.0 and Apple Pencil support, the device is considered overdue for an update. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last year that the new iPad mini will be slightly larger.
iPad mini could actually get bigger
The model could have a display diagonal of around 8.5 and 9 inches. For comparison: the current iPad mini has 7.9 inches. However, he did not give any further details. Now writes the Korean blog Naver:
The iPad mini Pro model we talked about on January 10th this year was first included in the internal project stage in July last year. It is currently in the design P2 stage, which is beyond the R&D stage and the planning stage, and seems to move to the DVT P3 stage sooner or later. As a result, the iPad mini Pro model I have mentioned several times is expected to appear in the second half of the year. The size is 8.7 inches, the width is longer than the previous iPad mini, and the vertical width is slightly reduced.
Small iPad with significantly more features?
The blog doesn't have a track record of Apple leaks - that much is clear. While some of the information matches previous statements, the "iPad mini Pro" designation has sparked a debate. So what does that mean? The "iPad mini Pro" designation seems very unlikely, as it would combine two different iPad series. However, the iPad Air precedent makes it likely that Apple will use the same design with small bezels, which would allow for a larger display with similar dimensions to the existing model. It's also possible that it will get 5G functionality. In terms of appearance, the information should also be taken with a grain of salt. The majority of all known sources claim that the device will be released in the first half of the year, not the second half. (Photo by NZPhotography / Bigstockphoto)
