Foxconn is one of Apple's most important partners when it comes to manufacturing the iPhone and other devices. The Chinese contract manufacturer is also being touted as a production partner for the Apple Car. The company has now spoken out.
Foxconn confirmed today (via Nikkei) that the company plans to build electric vehicles in North America by 2023. As part of this, Foxconn is currently looking for locations in the USA and Mexico. Of course, the question was raised as to whether the plans for electric vehicles are somehow related to an Apple deal - perhaps the Apple Car? The CEO simply stated that the Apple Car was "still a rumor". No further comments were made. Foxconn says it wants to select a location by the end of 2021. Candidates for locations in the USA include Wisconsin.
Foxconn did not want to officially confirm relations with Apple
Foxconn's business has grown significantly over the past decade with the iPhone and the explosive smartphone market. However, as the smartphone market has now matured, the potential for future growth is minimal. This should be a major reason why Foxconn is now turning to the production of electric vehicles. Interestingly, however, a statement was made that naturally raises eyebrows. While the company did not want to officially confirm a relationship with Apple, it did say that it is currently negotiating supply contracts with US electric car companies. Based on previous rumors, many analysts believe that the Apple Car is also part of these negotiations. (Photo by Foto-event / Bigstockphoto)
