Rumors about a foldable iPhone have been with us for several years. Now further technical details and a possible release date have been mentioned.
The technology research company Omdia claims to have learned more details about Apple's foldable iPhone. In an analysis conducted by the investment research firm EqualOcean quoted Omdia predicts that Apple will introduce a foldable iPhone in 2023. The device is expected to have a display size in the range of 7.3 to 7.6 inches and will be equipped with an OLED panel.
Omdia, a global communications and digital media research firm, predicts that Apple may launch a foldable OLED smartphone with a display size of 7.3 to 7.6 inches in 2023 and equip its foldable iPhone with an Apple Pencil.
Foldable iPhone: Will Apple Pencil support be available?
For several years now, there have been repeated reports that Apple is considering introducing Apple Pencil support for the iPhone. But so far, the feature has not been implemented. If the foldable iPhone has such a large display, Pencil support would actually be a good idea. With a 7.6-inch display, the foldable iPhone would at least be almost as large as the iPad mini, which has a 7.9-inch display. The small tablet has supported the Apple Pencil since 2019, so it would make sense for a foldable iPhone with roughly the same display size to support it as well. The Apple Pencil is great for illustrations, handwriting, and productivity tasks that require fine control. With a display that is reportedly almost as large as the iPad mini, there is a much clearer use case for the Apple Pencil than on previous iPhone models.
First rumors were documented in 2016
In addition, the report echoes earlier speculation that an OLED display will be used, with the panel most likely coming from Samsung. In January, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that Apple is testing foldable devices with a range of different display sizes. A recent report from Taiwanese website Economic Daily News has already made similar claims. claimedIt was stated that two of the prototypes had passed important durability tests. The report also claimed that a presentation is planned for late 2022 or 2023. This means that previous reports are consistent. The first rumors about a foldable iPhone were first documented in 2016. In recent years, patents have repeatedly appeared that document Apple's research into such devices. So it remains to be seen what Cupertino will present to us in the next few years.
