Apple recently introduced new iPad Pro models – these now also feature the biometric recognition technology Face ID.
Since this year, all iPhones and new iPad Pro models have been equipped with Face ID. Now the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported back. His predictions have mostly been correct in recent years, which is why his statements about upcoming products etc. carry more weight.
TrueDepth camera update
According to Kuo, Apple is planning a major Face ID update for 2019. Initially, however, the update will only be available for the upcoming iPhone line-up.
The iPad models are not expected to follow until 2020. The update is said to relate to the infrared illuminator of the TrueDepth camera. This should enable the iPhone to recognize faces even better in poor lighting conditions and in the dark than it currently does. In addition, two new OLED models and an LCD device are also set to be introduced in 2019.
