According to well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could introduce a new Apple TV hardware model with a possibly lower price in the second half of 2022.
Kuo made this prediction today in a Tweet and claims that Apple will launch a new Apple TV model in the second half of the year that will "improve the cost structure." This implies a lower price. The analyst goes on to say that he believes Apple's "aggressive strategy" of integrating hardware, content and services could help the iPhone maker close the gap with its TV hardware competitors. It remains unclear on what data he bases his claim. There is a price and market share gap.
Will Apple introduce a new Apple TV this year?
Market share reports show that the Apple TV is lagging behind other cheaper streaming devices like Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Google Chromecast. Smart TVs are making things even more complicated, taking market share away from all streaming device manufacturers. This isn't the first time we've heard rumors of a cheaper or more affordable Apple TV model. However, Apple reportedly scrapped plans for a cheaper TV streaming stick because the company thought it would ruin its reputation. The current Apple TV 4K model costs $199 with 32GB while the 64GB variant costs $219. Most other streaming device manufacturers offer options that cost significantly less.
