The butterfly keyboard on today's MacBooks has been with us since 2015. Now, according to a new report, this is finally over - the new keyboard technology is no stranger to it.
The idea behind the butterfly keyboard was basically great but it caused a lot of trouble. Only a few users have been lucky and have not had to use the free exchange program participate. Over the last few years, Apple has improved the technology behind it, but unfortunately not enough - the reliability of the butterfly mechanism remained problematic. Now the well-known and well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out - he has interesting things to report about the future of MacBook keyboards. According to his latest note to investors, Apple is planning to introduce an already known technology in a new design. According to him, the MacBook Air will be released in 2019 with a completely new keyboard design - the MacBook Pro division, however, will not follow suit until 2020, according to his information. The technology behind the new keyboard is based on so-called scissor switches, i.e. with a real pressure mechanism like in previous years. Despite the old technology, the design of the upcoming keyboard is said to be completely new - Apple also wants to increase the durability of the keys. Fiberglass is said to be used for this. According to Kuo, the production of the new keyboard will still be more expensive than conventional notebook keyboards, but it should be cheaper than the unpopular butterfly keyboard. According to his sources, Apple plans to introduce the new keyboard design with an updated MacBook Air this year - MacBook Pro users will therefore have to wait until 2020.
