A new report from DigiTimes covering notebook sales briefly mentions that Apple plans to launch a new MacBook Air in the second half of 2022, which is consistent with the timeframe given by Bloomberg contributor Mark Gurman earlier this month.
In the relevant extract from the report, citing sources in the supply chain, states:
Apple's MacBook range is a high-end device for consumers, but can also be considered a business notebook model, as it is preferred by many companies or office workers. The good sales of the MacBook Pro, launched in late 2021, have continued into the first quarter of 2022, and shipments are higher than expected. The new MacBook Air, scheduled to launch in the second half of the year, is expected to further boost sales.
MacBook Air: Which chipset will Apple choose?
The new MacBook Air will have a slightly larger 13.6-inch display than the current model. Display analyst Ross Young has already made this clear. While several sources claim that the new MacBook Air will be equipped with an M2 chip with an 8-core CPU and 9- or 10-core GPU, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo assumes that the notebook will still be equipped with an M1 chip, as he tweeted in a list of predictions in early March. Kuo's tweet says that the new MacBook Air will also have a completely new design with additional color options and will go into mass production in late second or third quarter of 2022. Unlike the current 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, Kuo does not expect a mini-LED display for the new MacBook Air, so ProMotion is unlikely. (Photo by lia_russy / Bigstockphoto)
