Apple's splashy launch in January may have been the company's last major release for some time. With no new products expected for the second quarter, it could be a few months before anything new hits the market again.
Apple's unexpected product launches in January covered a number of areas, including the revival of the HomePod, the launch of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, an updated Mac mini, and new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices. However, Apple's decision to launch the products so early in the year could dampen expectations for spring's new releases, which could mean no hardware unveiling in March or the second quarter. In 2022, Apple unveiled the iPhone SE 5G, Mac Studio, and Studio Display, among others, in the spring.
No new Apple hardware in spring?
According to Mark Gurman’s “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg "there hasn't been a comparable flood of new products in the second quarter this year." The early launches seem to help make the first quarter results look "a little less painful" than they could have been. Wall Street now expects Q1 revenue of $122.2 billion, a slight decline and far from a "disaster," while Q2 revenue is expected to be stable at $97.5 billion. With Apple set to announce its holiday quarter results on February 2, it's likely that CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri will provide further assessments and justifications for the launch during the company's usual analyst conference call.
