Apple plans to launch the so-called "Apple Watch Series X" and the third generation of the Apple Watch SE with a larger display in 2024, according to a study published last week by David Hsieh, an analyst at technology research firm Omdia.
In his analysis claimed Hsieh said the Apple Watch Series X will have a 1.89-inch and a 2.04-inch display, which would be 5 to 10 percent larger than the Apple Watch Series 8, depending on the case size. These dimensions refer to the rectangular display panel, but since the Apple Watch has rounded edges, the actual visible area is smaller. "Apple Watch Series X" would be similar branding to the iPhone X, but the name is not confirmed. Hsieh is likely using the name "Series X" as a placeholder, since it is said to be the tenth generation of the Apple Watch. The original Apple Watch was introduced in September 2014 and launched in April 2015.
Apple Watch Series X: Will Apple give the anniversary model a larger display?
For the third-generation Apple Watch SE, Hsieh expects the device to have the same screen sizes as the Apple Watch Series 8. If the new Apple Watch SE has the same thinner bezels as the Series 8, that means it will be available in 41mm and 45mm case sizes, compared to 40mm and 44mm on the current Apple Watch SE. He also expects this year's Apple Watch Series 9 to keep the same display sizes as the Series 8. In line with analysts Ross Young and Jeff Pu, Hsieh expects the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra to have a larger, rectangular 2.13-inch display. The current Apple Watch Ultra's display is 1.99 inches and rectangular. (Image: Apple)
