According to leaker “ShrimpApplePro,” the Apple Watch Series 8 could feature a completely new design with a flat display.
In his latest video on the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, Jon Prosser has information from ShrimpApplePro highlighted, which suggest that the Apple Watch Series 8 could have a flat display, as was originally suspected for the Apple Watch Series 7. On Twitter quoted ShrimpApplePro sources claim that there will be a "flat front glass display" for the Apple Watch. "There's a good chance this is the front glass for the Apple Watch Series 8," they say. While there's no clear information yet on what the overall design might look like or which Apple Watch model the flat display might be for, it seems plausible that the information refers to the flat-edged Apple Watch design that Prosser shared last year.
Will the Apple Watch Series 8 have the controversial design?
In May last year, Prosser started a rumor that Apple was working on an Apple Watch design with flat, angled edges, which was confirmed by alleged CAD renderings and other sources.

At the time, Prosser suggested the design could be for the Apple Watch Series 7, but noted that it could also be intended for another future Apple Watch model, such as the Series 8. The Apple Watch Series 7, on the other hand, was unveiled in September last year with an even rounder design. The latest information from ShrimpApplePro suggests that the Apple Watch's flat design could instead be intended for a new model this year.
Three new Apple Watch models are expected this year
ShrimpApplePro added that the flat display will likely be ready for mass production soon, likely alongside the front glass for the iPhone 14 models, and that there will be more to report next month. Rumors suggest that Apple will launch three new Apple Watch models this year, including the Apple Watch Series 8, the second generation Apple Watch SE, and a new Apple Watch "Explorer Edition" with improved durability for extreme sports enthusiasts. Prosser has hinted that the flat-edged design could be for one of these new models. (Image: Ian Zelebo)
