We have already read a few rumors about the Apple Watch Series 8. Now there is a new report that fuels speculation about blood sugar monitoring.
This is how DigiTimes experience have announced that Apple and its suppliers have begun working on shortwave infrared sensors, a commonly used type of sensor in health devices. The new sensors, which will likely be placed on the back of the Apple Watch, could allow the device to measure the level of sugar in the wearer's blood. The Apple Watch has gained increasingly extensive health features over the years, most recently with the Apple Watch Series 6, which added a blood oxygen sensor. Compared to the first Apple Watch, which could measure heart rate and primary daily activity, the Apple Watch is now able to take an ECG, detect falls, high and low heart rates, blood oxygen levels, and more.
Will the Apple Watch Series 8 be able to measure blood sugar levels?
In order to develop the Apple Watch into a comprehensive health device, Apple is rumored to also offer a blood sugar measurement function for the next generation of the smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 8. According to the Wall Street Journal, measuring blood sugar levels is one of several health functions that Apple will gradually integrate over the next few years. Currently, a blood sample is taken and a medical device is used to measure blood sugar levels. With the Apple Watch, Cupertino would try to make a typically invasive medical method non-invasive. In addition to various rumors, several patents have also confirmed Apple's work in this regard. Whether the whole thing will actually appear with the Series 8 next year remains to be seen. You don't want to wait? Then grab the Series 7. It is already available from 419 euros and offers a larger display as well as useful functions, including fall detection, blood oxygen measurement and much more.
