Apple will most likely introduce the Apple Watch Series 7 this fall. But what innovations can we expect?
According to a new Bloomberg report, the Apple Watch Series 7 will feature updated ultra-wideband technology and thinner display bezels. A new lamination technique has also been tested. This is intended to bring the display panel closer to the front cover. writes Mark Gurman:
For this year's model, Apple has been testing thinner display bezels and a new lamination technique that brings the display closer to the front cover. The new Watch will likely be slightly thicker overall, but not in a way that is noticeable to the user.
The model will also include updated ultra-wideband functionality, the same technology that underlies Apple's AirTag, according to Gurman, although additional biometric sensors will likely be postponed to a successor model. It will also use a faster processor.
Apple Watch Series 7: No blood sugar monitoring after all?
Apple had previously aimed to include a body temperature sensor in this year's model. Now it's more likely that it will be included in the 2022 update. The blood glucose sensor, which would help diabetics monitor their blood sugar levels, probably won't be ready for market for several years.
With regard to the blood sugar sensor, Gurman's statement is quite interesting, as there have been several reports in recent months that the Apple Watch Series 7 could have such a capability. According to Gurman, however, this feature is not yet ready for the market. This contradicts other sources. In addition, Bloomberg once again mentioned an Apple Watch model for extreme athletes. This is said to have an extremely robust case. Now Gurman has stated that this version is not expected until 2022 at the earliest. Whether he will be right once again remains to be seen, of course.
