A new rumor suggests that the expected Apple Watch Pro will require wider straps, making it the first Apple Watch that is not backwards compatible.
Apple will unveil the Apple Watch Series 8 alongside the iPhone 14 at the “Far Out” event on September 7. It has already been reported that the new series will include a Pro version. A new leak now claims that the Apple Watch Pro’s case will likely be squarer and the band wider. The leak on the Chinese social media site Weibo comes from the user "UnclePan". In translation, the leaker says that the Apple Watch Pro will have a "screen size of 47mm/48mm". The Apple Watch has always been available in two sizes.
Will the Apple Watch Pro have flat edges?
But the difference is more than a millimeter, so the leaker is apparently unsure of which measurement is correct. Currently, the Apple Watch Series 7 is sold in either a 41mm or 45mm size, and its display is not quite square. "UnclePan" believes the new size likely means the new Watch will have a square display. There have been previous rumors of an Apple Watch with flat edges, which have been supported by the way Apple depicts the Watch in sketches of its patent applications. If it is true that the new Apple Watch Pro will require a wider strap, it would be the first Watch to do so since the device was launched in 2015.
