If you were already disappointed by the lack of new health sensors in the Apple Watch Series 7, you shouldn't get too hung up on the Series 8. According to a new report, Apple is still several years away from equipping the Apple Watch with important new health sensors.
In the latest Power On Newsletter speaks Mark Gurman on what sensors Apple is developing for the Apple Watch and when we'll see them in the product itself. Gurman says there are three big new features in the works: monitoring blood sugar, the ability to measure blood pressure, and determining body temperature. All of these sensors have been rumored for some time, and we've reported on them several times. The problem: none of these features will appear in a new Apple Watch anytime soon.
What will the Apple Watch Series 8 offer?
Don't expect any of these features any time soon. Body temperature was on the roadmap this year but hasn't been the focus lately. Blood pressure is at least another two to three years away and I wouldn't be surprised if blood glucose monitoring doesn't arrive until the second half of the decade.
With that in mind, the only new health feature we can expect from the Apple Watch Series 8 might be the ability to detect advanced sleep patterns and sleep apnea, as the Wall Street Journal has already reported. If rumors are to be believed, Apple will introduce a new SE model and a more robust version of the watch for athletes this year in addition to the Apple Watch Series 8. All in all, it should still remain exciting. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
