Apple doesn't seem to have any plans to change its living room strategy with the Apple TV in the near future, according to a new report.
In the last year, Apple has made many big changes to its product lines, although it can be said that work on the living room has slowed down relatively. The most important change to the Apple TV was the update of the Siri Remote to a more user-friendly version, while the large HomePod was discontinued. These changes have left observers pessimistic about the future of this product line. Optimism is also said to have diminished internally. reported In his latest "Power On" newsletter, Mark Gurman talks about conversations he had with various Apple engineers. It becomes clear that Apple's focus will not be on the living room next year either.
Apple TV: New model with camera and HomePod?
Gurman muses that the Apple TV is "pointless" as a high-priced set-top box in a market dominated by Amazon and Roku, suggesting that Apple should develop an even cheaper, stick-like Apple TV or introduce new features to justify the existing price.
Right now, it's hard to believe that will happen anytime soon, especially since Apple engineers told me that the company doesn't have a strong living room hardware strategy and that there's not much optimism internally.
Gurman also refers to an April report claiming that Apple is working on an advanced version of the Apple TV that will feature a HomePod-style speaker and a camera to create a device that can play music and videos and also make video calls. According to Gurman's information, however, this product may not be released until 2023. (Photo by Unsplash / Omar Rodriguez)
