Apple is reportedly working on an “Apple Studio Display” that will have a higher resolution of 7K than the current Pro Display XDR.
It has already been reported that Apple is working on a successor to the Pro Display XDR. A new report now says that it will be called the "Apple Studio Display". However, there are few details at this point. It is not yet clear whether the device will be a direct successor to the Pro Display XDR or will be positioned as a higher resolution option. There is also no indication of a price or launch date. The display is reportedly known internally by the codename J327. It has already been reported that a display with this codename will have an A13 processor built in. As 9to5mac first found out, the J327 monitor will be a 7K monitor with a dedicated Apple Silicon processor.
Apple Studio Display: Which size will Apple choose?
The current Pro Display XDR is a 6K monitor and runs at a screen size of 32 inches with a resolution of 6,016 by 3,384 pixels. Apple could build the "Apple Studio Display" in the same 32-inch size but produce it with a higher pixel density of 245 ppi. Of course, it could also keep the same pixel density of 218 ppi as the current display. But then it would have to be around 36 inches in size. Previous reports about Apple making new displays have claimed that LG is making a trio of monitors. For example, in January 2021, it was reported that Apple was working on a lower-cost version of the Pro Display XDR. What Apple will actually present to us in the end remains to be seen, of course.
