Apple will hold a third fall event on Tuesday, November 10th, with the focus set to be on the Mac series and the switch to Apple Silicon. According to a report, the company seems to be expecting high demand.
The production orders that Apple has placed with suppliers for Apple Silicon MacBooks indicate that the company is expecting high demand. Initial orders are expected to represent almost a fifth of total MacBook sales last year. reported the news site Nikkei Asian Review:
Apple Event: Which Mac devices can we expect at the end?
Apple is asking suppliers to produce 2.5 million MacBook laptops with the in-house developed CPU by early 2021 as the Californian tech giant seeks to quickly reduce its reliance on Intel chips, sources told Nikkei Asia.
These initial production orders for the first MacBooks to use Apple's silicon central processing unit represent nearly 20% of total MacBook shipments for 2019, which totaled 12.6 million units, according to sources briefed on the matter.
The US technology giant is expected to introduce more MacBook models with its own CPUs in the second quarter of next year, which will further replace Intel's microprocessors, according to sources informed of the matter.
Like its latest iPhone processor chips, Apple's latest CPUs for MacBooks are designed by the U.S. company but produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world's largest contract chipmaker, and are made by TSMC's most advanced 5-nanometer chip manufacturing technology, sources said.
The focus of the "One more thing" event will clearly be on Apple Silicon Macs. In addition to rumors and leaks, Apple itself announced at WWDC 2020 that the first devices would be introduced by the end of 2020. The only question that remains is which devices will be introduced first. Anonymous leaker @L0vetodream has already published a post on Twitter about this. According to him, two 13-inch and one 16-inch MacBooks are to be released. The breakdown is as follows: a 13-inch MacBook Air, a 13-inch MacBook Pro and finally the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Since @L0vetodream has often been right in the past, there is currently little reason to doubt it. Have you already discovered the early Black Friday offers on Amazon? It's worth being quick.
