According to a new report, Apple intends to pay a bonus to its own retail employees.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, reported Bloomberg reported that Apple will pay a bonus of up to $1,000 to its retail employees, including those in the AppleCare and online sales departments. Employees who started at Apple before March 31 will get the full $1,000. Those hired after the March deadline will get $500, while employees recently hired to handle the holiday shopping rush will get $200 on top of their regular wages, it said.
Apple wants to honor efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic
The bonuses are intended to be financial recognition for employees' efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apple last paid out a large bonus to its employees in 2018. Employees below director level received $2,500 in the form of restricted stock units. The bonus, which was distributed to corporate and retail employees worldwide, came about due to changes in US tax law that allowed Apple to repatriate hundreds of billions of dollars from its overseas cash holdings without having to pay the normally high corporate tax rates.
