Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suspects that there will be no new iPad in 2023 and that the expected foldable iPad with a carbon fiber stand will appear in 2024.
Kuo had previously predicted that a redesigned iPad mini could be released in late 2023 or early 2024. Now he says early 2024 is the more likely date. He adds that it is possible that no iPad will be released in 2023, although it is not clear whether he means the iPad Pro. In a series of tweets claimed Kuo continued that the upcoming foldable iPad will not be a replacement for the iPad mini but a standalone product.
Will Apple introduce a foldable iPad in 2024?
There are likely to be no new iPad products in the next 9-12 months (the new iPad mini will likely enter mass production in 1Q24),” so I am conservative on iPad shipments in 2023 and expect a 10-15% year-on-year decline. However, I am looking forward to the foldable iPad in 2024 and expect this product to drive sales and improve the product mix. My latest analysis suggests that the foldable iPad will come with a carbon fiber kickstand, which would make the kickstand lighter and more durable.
Kuo reports that Anjie Technology is "a supplier for polishing and bonding carbon fiber frames for foldable iPads." It has previously been reported that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone and has even tested production. However, recently it is believed that Apple is focusing on a foldable iPad. Interestingly, in the meantime, renowned display analyst Ross Young has spoken out reported and Kuo partially contradicted him. Young also claims to have heard that Apple will introduce several OLED iPads in 2024. However, he has not heard anything about a foldable iPad in the same year. (Photo by cigdemsimsek / Bigstockphoto)
