The coronavirus epidemic has brought large parts of China to a standstill. In addition to Apple, other companies are also struggling with production problems - but Apple now seems to have a solution in sight.
Reports that the production of Apple products is progressing slowly are appearing daily. But now Taiwan News is reporting that Apple wants to move the production of some products entirely to Taiwan. The report:
As the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread in China, Apple is shifting manufacturing of some of its top-of-the-line devices to Taiwan.
Apple has begun shifting production of a number of its top-of-the-line devices set to launch in the first half of 2020, according to a report by am730 citing DigiTimes. The products listed in the report that will be moved to Taiwan include AirPods Pro Lite, iPads and Apple Watches.
Apple is trying to geographically diversify its supply chain as the spread of the virus has seriously affected the production of Apple products in the communist country. Apple intends to gradually increase the proportion of production in Taiwan while maintaining cooperation with suppliers across the strait."
Observers also believe that around a third of Chinese producers are at a standstill. According to current estimates, a return to normal production will not be possible before the end of February or even the beginning of March. Although iPhone production has also been severely restricted, Apple is still planning to present the iPhone 9 as part of a keynote in March. At least that is what various independent sources are claiming. (Photo by maxxyustas / Bigstockphoto)
