We have already read several rumors that Apple is planning to develop completely new over-ear headphones of its own brand and introduce them this year. So far, there has been no indication of how these might differ from the well-known Studio Beats - until today.
The news site Bloomberg claims to have learned new details about Apple's upcoming over-ear headphones. The high-end model is said to have magnetically interchangeable components. This means that users can adapt these new over-ear headphones to their own style and ergonomics. There are said to be two material variants - including leather and fabric. The fabric version could be used in the fitness sector, while the leather version could be used outside of sporting activities. Although customizable headphones are not new, Apple is reportedly planning to go a step further. This is what the report:
Clues discovered in iOS 14 code
The ear pads and headband cushions attach magnetically to the frame of the headphones so they can be swapped out by the user. This approach is similar to some headphones from Master & Dynamic and Bowers & Wilkins, although those models only have magnetic ear pads. Apple's more modular design allows users to customize their headphones like the Apple Watch. The design could also mean the same headphone can be converted from a comfort headphone to a fitness headphone and back again, the people said.
While the new audio accessory was expected last year, there were reportedly delays in the development process. Now the launch is planned for this year – possibly in the fall? In the meantime, hints have been made in the iOS 14 code discovered, which is why reports about the launch can be taken seriously. You want new headphones?
