Apple is reportedly close to releasing its long-awaited mixed reality headset. Taiwan's Economic Daily News has now reported that the device is in the "shipment phase." It is believed that GIS, a subsidiary of Foxconn, is involved in the device's supply chain and operates its own lens coating production line.
Apple's mixed reality headset is one of the most anticipated devices of 2023. With a variety of features including augmented and virtual reality experiences, it will have the potential to fundamentally change the way we interact with technology. Below, we take a closer look at the latest developments related to the Apple mixed reality headset.
GIS as a new partner in the supply chain
Taiwan's Economic Daily News recently reported that the Apple Mixed Reality headset is in the "shipment phase" and is close to release. The report states that GIS, a subsidiary of Foxconn, is involved in the device's supply chain and operates its own production line for the headset's lens coating. Previously, Foxconn was excluded from the headset's supply chain, while Luxshare was the sole assembler. Apple is expected to unveil the mixed reality headset at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, before launching it sometime in the following months. GIS has publicly stated that it will begin shipping Metaverse devices to customers in the second quarter of 2023, from April to June. GIS's involvement appears to lay the foundation for greater Foxconn involvement in the supply chain of the second-generation Apple headset.
Apple mixed reality headset has potential
In February, it was reported that Foxconn hopes to supply the cheaper second-generation model of Apple's headset. The current reports suggest that Apple is close to releasing its mixed reality headset. The inclusion of GIS in the device's supply chain and the fact that it is already in the "shipping phase" suggests that the device will be launched soon. Apple is expected to unveil the mixed reality headset at this year's WWDC in June. The future of the Apple mixed reality headset looks bright, and it will be exciting to see how it will change the way we interact with technology. (Image: Rendersbyjan)
