The company is asking suppliers to produce about 220 million iPhones, roughly in line with last year's level, said people familiar with the forecasts who asked not to be identified. Market forecasts have previously been closer to 240 million units, reflecting the major iPhone refresh expected in the fall. But the wireless industry has had a rough start to the year, and production estimates have fallen across the board.
Several products, including the company's latest Macs, have been on backorder for several weeks, if not months, due to supply chain issues triggered by COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions. This fall, Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 14 with updated design, better cameras, higher performance, and more.
