Apple is working on a foldable 20.5″ MacBook that could hit the market as early as 2025. Display analyst Ross Young announced this today.
Young shared these details in a Tweet , contradicting an iPad rumor by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claimed that Apple was developing a foldable iPad for 2024. So far, both Young and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman have said they see no signs that a foldable tablet will come next year. The rumor about a full-screen foldable MacBook is not entirely new, as Young shared similar information back in February 2022. At the time, Young said that Apple was talking to its suppliers about foldable notebooks with screens of around 20".
Foldable 20.5″ notebook could be a mix of MacBook and iPad
Today's report suggests that Apple is still working on some sort of foldable notebook that would have a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded and can be used with an external keyboard when unfolded. Young had previously said that this would be an entirely new product category for Apple. The dual-display design would be different from current MacBooks, which can be folded, as those devices have a single display with a keyboard and trackpad. So far, it's unclear whether the rumored 20" foldable device will be positioned as an iPad, a Mac, or something entirely new. But so far, multiple sources seem to be suggesting that 2024 is too early for such a device. (Photo by Unsplash / Elise Bouet)
