According to a new report, there could be a second display for Mac users in the future alongside the Apple Pro Display XDR that will be more affordable.
Currently, consumers who need an external display for their Mac must either pay a hefty premium for the Pro Display XDR (starting at 5,499 euros) or choose another brand. A report on Apple's future range of displays has been predicting for some time that an alternative option could be made available by Apple itself. Now writes Mark Gurman said in his latest Bloomberg "Power On" newsletter that he "firmly believes" Apple is working on a new "external monitor for its latest Macs." Gurman stressed that a cheaper monitor "would be a big seller for those who want to add a larger screen to their new MacBook Pro without spending the equivalent of a down payment on a luxury car on the Pro Display XDR."
New external Apple display could cost half as much as a Pro Display XDR
Production costs for the Pro Display XDR have "probably gone down" since its launch. With a few improvements and a slight reduction in brightness, Apple could offer a similarly high-quality and slightly smaller monitor for half the price, Gurman says. Recently, there were reports that LG is working on a trio of screens based on the current Pro Display XDR and iMac sizes that could carry the Apple name. The rumor says the screens will be 24, 27 and 32 inches, with the latter possibly supporting mini-LED backlighting and a 120Hz refresh rate. When the product might appear, however, remains unknown for now. (Photo by Unsplash / Nana Dua)
