The rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 Pro are not letting up. The camera system and the new design in particular are the focus of the leaks and speculation. Below we take a closer look at the latest reports.
Apple has focused on setting new standards with each new generation of iPhone Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro seems to be no exception. With improved cameras, a redesigned chassis and new technical features, it could be one of the most exciting devices of 2025. What exactly can you expect? Here are the details known so far.
The innovations in detail
Camera system: Three 48-megapixel cameras
The biggest change concerns the camera system. Both Pro models, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, are said to offer a full set of three 48-megapixel cameras for the first time:
- Main camera: Equipped with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, which is slightly smaller than the 1/1.28-inch sensor of the iPhone 16 Pro but should still deliver impressive image quality. The hybrid construction of glass and plastic promises better optical performance.
- Ultra-wide-angle camera: This 48-megapixel camera is designed to give you even more details in your landscape and group shots.
- Tetraprism telephoto camera: With an improved zoom function and outstanding photo quality, Apple takes telephotography to a new level.
The telephoto camera is said to benefit from completely newly developed prisms that allow for a more compact design while still being powerful. According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this system ensures improved photo quality and greater zoom performance. On the front, both Pro models will receive a new 24-megapixel front camera that has twice the resolution of the previous camera in the iPhone 16 models. This innovation promises significant improvements in selfies and use in poor lighting conditions.
Design: aluminum and glass
The iPhone 17 Pro will also bring some visual changes. Rumor has it that Apple will use a back made of half aluminum and half glass, which will not only look classy but will also be more robust. The camera bump will be redesigned and will have a rectangular shape with smoother transitions to the back cover.
Minor changes to the camera sensor
The decision to go for a slightly smaller main camera sensor (1/1.3-inch instead of 1/1.28-inch) could be related to the new design of the camera bump, which saves space. In practice, however, the differences in image quality should be minimal and compensated by the improved camera lenses and algorithms.
Technical details and model range
The iPhone 17 Pro will most likely be powered by Apple's new A19 Bionic chip, which is expected to offer even faster performance and better energy efficiency. Combined with a high-resolution OLED display and the latest iOS version, the device should deliver a smooth user experience. In addition, Apple is rumored to introduce the iPhone 17 Air, which will replace the previous Plus model. The model range is expected to include:
- iPhone 17
- iPhone 17 Air
- iPhone 17 Pro
- iPhone 17 Pro Max
The possible weaknesses
One possible limitation could be the decision to use a slightly smaller main camera sensor. The lack of space due to the new design could play a role here. Nevertheless, Apple is expected to compensate for this change with other optimizations.
iPhone 17 Pro: A new chapter for the Pro series
The iPhone 17 Pro promises an exciting further development of the Pro series. With a completely revised camera system, a new design and technical improvements, it could set standards again. We will probably find out whether the rumors are true in September 2025, when Apple presents the new iPhone generation. Until then, the wait remains exciting - and the anticipation is great.
