The world of technology is in turmoil because it seems Apple is planning something big. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed exciting news: Apple is planning another press release later this month that could include the launch of a redesigned 24-inch iMac model.
In its latest issue of the newsletter “Power On” betrays Gurman said Apple is planning a "Mac-centric product launch towards the end of the month." In particular, everything points to the release of a refreshed 24-inch iMac model that is in dire need of a hardware upgrade. The current model was launched in April 2021 and is the last remaining current-generation Mac with the M1 chip. Gurman has previously hinted that the next iMac will use the M3 chip, but the exact chip specification remains a secret for now.
Shortage in Apple Stores: Points to Changes
The excitement surrounding the upcoming announcements spans several Mac models. Gurman points out that the iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro are running low in Apple stores, a clear indication that change is coming. What's particularly interesting is that the current MacBook Pro models, the M2 Pro and M2 Max, only launched in January. Another upgrade in such a short time would be unusual, but Gurman thinks it's possible. The next Mac announcement is expected to be Monday, October 30th or Tuesday, October 31st, followed by Apple's quarterly earnings release on Thursday, November 2nd. The new Macs will likely receive processor updates, but major changes are unlikely. We can possibly expect minor improvements to the displays, however.
An impressive 32-inch iMac in sight
Gurman also confirmed rumors about the future of the MacBook Air with M3 chip, which is not expected to launch until early 2024. Additionally, Apple is apparently planning a larger "Pro" version of the iMac with an impressive 32-inch screen and a new design, scheduled for late 2024 or 2025. An exciting Mac overhaul could be in the future, especially if Apple adds touchscreens to its lineup.
