Apple will not unveil its AR/VR headset at WWDC 2022. Battery issues are reportedly forcing Apple to delay the release of the hardware until 2023.
Recent rumors suggest that Apple will make a big move into AR and VR at WWDC 2022, giving developers a chance to develop apps for the headset's 2022 launch. However, a new report claims that Apple will wait until 2023 to launch the hardware, casting doubt on its appearance at the developer conference. In an article that talks about Apple hiring Hollywood directors to develop content for the headset, report Sources told the New York Times that Mike Rockwell was hired by Dolby Technologies to work on the headset.
Apple AR/VR headset: Apple could still introduce realityOS
The two people familiar with the project said that problems have forced Apple to delay the release until 2023. It is claimed that Rockwell's early attempts to develop an AR product were "hampered by weak processing power." But battery performance issues are also allegedly to blame for the delay. A trademark filing suggests that "realityOS" could be the name for the headset's operating system, which may still be unveiled during WWDC. In preparation for the headset's launch, Apple could offer developers tools for creating apps using existing hardware or even via a developer kit. (Photo by peshkov / Bigstockphoto)
