Reports about a new version of AirPower have become a regular part of the rumor mill. Now there are new details about the product.
As part of a major report regarding the new Nomad Base Station Pro and the Aira wireless charging technology behind it, Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on a "less ambitious" wireless charger for the iPhone. According to the report, the upcoming product will be a modest version of the long-awaited Qi charging mat. Today's report also confirms an earlier claim by Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple wants to develop a "smaller wireless charging mat". The new AirPower version was expected in the first half of 2020. But the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works for Apple.
Base Station Pro – A good Apple AirPower alternative
The biggest advantage of AirPower is supposed to be charging without a sweet spot. This means that the user is free to choose the position in which to place the device during charging. But in practice, Apple's plan did not work. Overheating is said to have been the result. This new wireless charger is considered "less ambitious" compared to AirPower. But specific details are not yet known. Whether the charging mat can only charge one or several devices remains unclear. Bloomberg itself writes:
More than a year after the demise of AirPower, Apple is developing a less ambitious wireless charger for the iPhone. But while the Silicon Valley giant works on that product, Chandler, Ariz.-based Aira Inc. is launching a technology this week called FreePower that aims to deliver on AirPower's original promise and work for devices from a variety of manufacturers, including those from Google and Samsung Electronics Co., not just Apple.
So if you don't want to wait for Apple's solution and are waiting for a charging mat without a sweet spot, you should definitely take a look at Nomads Base Station Pro. You can find all the important details below. (Image: Apple)
