Amazon Prime Music is a music streaming service from the mail order company Amazon and is available in a slimmed down version to all Prime members. That could change soon - but only for Amazon Echo owners.
In order to remain competitive with rivals such as Spotify and Apple Music, Amazon is said to be planning to launch a free and ad-supported music streaming service.
This is to include the existing products Prime Music and Music Unlimited. According to a report, the service could be available to all Echo device owners as early as next week. More precise details about the planned service are currently unknown - the playback of the music could be interrupted by advertising breaks, similar to a radio station.
Behind Spotify
If the service goes live, Amazon would become the second major music streaming service to offer both a free and paid package - at least for Echo owners. Market leader Spotify currently offers an ad-supported offering that is used by more than 100 million users worldwide.
