About two weeks ago, a new scandal came to light. According to insiders, Amazon did not take data protection with regard to Alexa very seriously. Now new details have come to light.
Artificial intelligence: Some can hardly wait for the future, others are already demonising it. Some use Apple's Siri, others use Microsoft's Cortana or Google's solution. However, Amazon's Alexa is also very popular among many fans. It is smart, clever and useful - but data protection is not Alexa's top priority. According to a Bloomberg report, Amazon has a department that listens to Alexa users' private conversations and records them in writing. According to this, Alexa is supposed to record conversations in the home and send them to Amazon employees in the USA, Costa Rica, India and Romania for analysis. The task of these employees is to improve Alexa. By listening to and writing down these conversations, the virtual assistant's voice recognition is supposed to become significantly better. Private conversations would also inevitably be recorded - according to the news channelAmazon itself has partially admitted this process in the past.
access to all customer data
According to the online retailer, only a small fraction of such data is processed further - but employees have no access to personal customer data. A lie! Bloomberg received further information directly from within this department. According to the report, the employees in question are said to be able to use a special tool to trace every conversation and assign it to the respective user. The new details are said to have been leaked by five Amazon employees - all five of them said they signed a confidentiality agreement because they themselves work for the company in the said department. According to the insiders, these employees can access the entire account and all associated data of the user. So far, however, no case is known in which someone has misused this data - not yet. Amazon has already commented on the latest report to Bloomberg. According to the company, only a small number of employees have access to this tool - all access is controlled at the highest level.
