All three AirPods models and Mac accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad will likely switch to USB-C by 2024.
A few days ago, the European Parliament passed a new directive that forces manufacturers to offer USB-C as a common charging port for a variety of devices in Europe by the end of 2024. In its latest “Power On” newsletter issue writes Mark Gurman says Apple has been preparing to adapt its devices to meet these new regulatory requirements. In addition to flagship products like the iPhone 15, which will switch to USB-C as early as 2023, Gurman believes the rest of the product catalog could also be converted in time.
iPhones & iPads will only use wireless charging in the future
AirPods charging cases and other accessories for Macs could adopt USB-C by 2024, including accessories like the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. For the latter, Gurman expects new versions to be released that reflect the changes. As for the rest of the products, the entry-level iPad, which still uses Lightning, is expected to be updated soon and switch to USB-C as well. The report also suggests that USB-C won't necessarily be around as long as Apple's other ports. Gurman believes the iPhone and iPad will switch to wireless charging before the end of this decade.
