When will WhatsApp finally get the long-awaited dark mode? This question annoys many fans.
A new update for WhatsApp was released today – version 2.19.100 contains new features – but no dark mode. With the latest update, media can now be edited and sent back more quickly within chats. Furthermore, voice messages can now be listened to directly from the messages – a feature that has been requested for a long time. But where is the dark mode? While Instagram has recently introduced the dark mode, Facebook and WhatsApp are still waiting. But things seem to be moving. The well-known blog WABetaInfo Apparently there are hints of Dark Mode in the latest Android beta (version 2.19.282). A new "Theme" section has been introduced in the settings. Here, users can choose between three options: light - dark - automatic.
- Light Theme: This is the usual light appearance.
- Dark Theme: This is the long-awaited dark mode.
- System default: WhatsApp identifies the theme used by your device and applies it automatically.
For example, if you have set the appearance of iOS according to the time of day, you could select the third option in WhatsApp. The app would then automatically adapt to the iPhone system. Dark mode is currently only included in the Android beta, but this does not mean that we iPhone users will miss out. New WhatsApp features are usually tested on Android devices first. By the way, dark mode cannot currently be activated directly - this is a code that is intended to be used as a preparation - but WABetaInfo was able to secure a corresponding screenshot - see below. Please note: The feature is not yet finished. It can therefore be assumed that the developers are already working on an implementation - the dark mode could possibly appear sooner than expected.
New feature "disappearing messages"
Apple itself has given developers a deadline of March 2020 - by then every app must be compatible with the system-wide dark mode. In addition to the dark mode, a function called "disappearing messages" is also set to appear. This allows users to have messages that have already been sent automatically deleted after a certain period of time. It is currently unknown when the function will appear.
