There have been reports for some time that WhatsApp is developing a native iPad app, and a new report says the unreleased iPad app will also spawn a macOS Catalyst app.
Rumour has it that the WhatsApp app for iPad will be a Catalyst app that runs seamlessly on macOS. As a reminder, Apple's Catalyst allows developers to create apps that can run on multiple devices. An iPad app that runs on a Mac is one example of this. So writes WABetaInfo:
WhatsApp: When will the iPad app be released?
We at WABetaInfo can also confirm that WhatsApp is working on a new application to be released on macOS Catalyst. How is this possible? Thanks to the iPad app! You may not know it, but Apple allows the use of compatible iPad apps on macOS Catalyst and WhatsApp will enable support at a later date: they are currently working on it! What does the macOS app look like? Just like the iPad app we discovered some time ago. They have the same interface. WhatsApp for macOS Catalyst will have some UI improvements: they are necessary to use the app properly on a desktop interface.
The new apps are supported by the multi-device capability, which allows users to use their WhatsApp account on up to four different linked devices, even when their smartphone is not connected to the Internet. However, according to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will enable support for macOS at a later date, which suggests that the iPad app may be released first. When that will be the case, however, is currently unknown. Do you already know the early Black Friday deals on Amazon? Stop by, there are dozens of bargains to be found.
