Most users can no longer imagine life without WhatsApp. Some use the messenger to chat, others mainly to send pictures and videos. But some devices will soon no longer be supported.
WhatsApp was founded in 2009 and taken over by the Facebook Group in 2014. The instant messaging service is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows and macOS. The app is constantly being developed further and so it is hardly surprising that older operating systems are no longer supported. As has now become known, some users will have to do without the service. WhatsApp confirmed that support for Windows Phone will be completely discontinued on December 31, 2019. According to initial estimates, around 400,000 users will be affected. But Android and iOS are not spared either.
According to the plan, support for iOS 8 or older and Android 2.3.7 or older will end on February 1, 2020. If affected users switch to a newer system in time, they can take their account with them, including groups and contacts. However, chat histories and the images and videos contained therein will not be taken into account - as WhatsApp announced in its own FAQ.
