The Trump administration is currently planning a new ban that would prohibit US companies from doing business with WeChat, but this could have a significant impact on iPhone sales, notes one analyst.
The well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out again. This time he is commenting on Trump's latest idea to ban WeChat. If this ban is fully implemented, WeChat would have to be removed from the App Store worldwide. However, WeChat is an extremely important app for the Chinese marketIf it is no longer available on iOS, iPhone sales could drop by as much as 30 percent - Kuo said. The application is more than just a messaging platform for Chinese users. It includes payments, social networking, news, online shopping and much more. WeChat is often described as an "operating system within the operating system" because it contains so many different features.
Ban would strengthen Huawei
Depending on the final conditions - from the US government - Apple could also be forced to remove WeChat from the App Store only within the US. In such a case, Kuo said, the decline in iPhone sales would be around three to six percent. In both cases, Huawei would be strengthened by this step, the analyst noted. In addition, it was also announced last week that Trump wants to force the Chinese social media company TikTok to sell its US division. Microsoft has already confirmed its own interest in doing so. According to the statement, the company founded by Bill Gates is already negotiating with TikTok's parent company ByteDance. (Photo by bigtunaonline / Bigstockphoto)
