Two unreleased Mac models were discovered in the November 2022 Steam survey, which collects anonymous information from willing Steam users about certain details of their computers, including the computer model, CPU type, memory, and more.
In the November 2022 survey, two unreleased Macs with the identifiers “Mac14,6” and “Mac15,4” were at the bottom of the list discovered, alongside model identifiers corresponding to the Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro, M2 MacBook Air, and other models. Both the "Mac14,6" and "Mac15,4" are listed with 0% usage on the Steam platform. But their placement on the list suggests that Apple is testing the yet-to-be-released Macs with the upcoming Apple Silicon chips on Steam's gaming platform.
Apple Silicon: Two new Mac models appear in Steam database
Interestingly, this isn't the first time we've seen a reference to an unannounced Mac with the model name "Mac14,6." The same identifier was spotted in two separate Geekbench tests using the M2 Max chip, which will likely first appear in the upcoming 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Apple was originally scheduled to announce the updated MacBook Pro models this fall, but then pushed the plans back to 2023. The upcoming Macs are expected to feature M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which offer faster performance and possible options for higher storage configurations. Apple announced the M2 chip in June, ushering in the second generation of Apple Silicon, which first appeared in the redesigned MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. (Image: Apple)
