Social media has become an integral part of our lives and the choice of platforms seems to be constantly growing. But in December, that offering will expand to include a significant option that has been missing in the European Union: Threads. A recent report from the Wall Street Journal revealed that Meta plans to launch Threads, the social network, in the EU next month.
Since its launch in July in most international markets, Threads has been an up-and-coming social network, but it has not yet been available in the European Union. This was because Meta, the company behind Threads, was initially unsure if it could meet the strict regulations for online services in the EU. But now it is certain that Threads will find its way into the European market.
The step into the EU
According to the Information on According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta Threads will comply with EU regulations by giving users in the European Union a choice. They can use Threads to consume content without creating their own profile that allows them to write their own posts. This approach echoes recent statements by Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram. He announced that the platform will introduce a way to separately delete or deactivate a Threads profile while leaving the associated Instagram account intact. This decision is likely to appease EU authorities' concerns about data protection and regulations.
Threads: Impact on user numbers
Threads' market expansion into the European Union is expected to significantly increase the social network's user numbers. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, revealed at last month's earnings conference that Threads already has "close to" 100 million monthly users. Since its launch, numerous improvements and features have been added, including a web app, a post search function and a post editing function.
Insight into the integration with Instagram
One of the notable features of Threads is its integration with Instagram, another popular social network owned by Meta. This close connection has given Threads a strong user base despite its relatively short lifespan. The ability to seamlessly switch and share content between the two platforms has further increased Threads' appeal. Looking for new accessories?
