Apple has somewhat surprisingly released a series of updates, including iOS 17.0.1, iPadOS 17.0.1 and watchOS 10.0.1. These updates come just a few days after the big release of the major versions and fix a total of three security vulnerabilities.
Usually, Apple releases sub-point updates like this to offer urgent bug fixes or security updates. But this time, the updates go beyond the usual "bug fixes and security updates" warning.
What was fixed?
The updates primarily address a problem related to the validation of certificates and perform improved checks. A total of three security vulnerabilities have been fixed, including CVE-2023-41991 and CVE-2023-41992, as well as a WebKit bug. The build numbers for iOS 17.0.1 and iPadOS 17.0.1 are 21A340, while watchOS 10.0.1 has the build number 21R360. Also noteworthy is the iOS 17.0.2 update with the build number 21A350, which is available specifically for the iPhone 15 models. Compared to the previous versions, however, these are rather small steps.
Further updates
In addition to the above updates, Apple has also released macOS Ventura 13.6, iOS & iPadOS 16.7, watchOS 9.6.3, and even macOS Monterey 12.7. These updates are closely linked to the previous major releases from 2022. The build numbers have been increased to 22G120 for macOS Ventura, 21G816 for macOS Monterey, and 20U502 for watchOS 9.6.3. Apple's iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 have been updated to build 20H19. Apple has not released detailed information about the updates yet, so it's unclear what specific changes they contain.
iOS 17.0.1 and more now available
It is expected that the updates mainly fix minor incompatibilities between Monday's operating system versions and the older versions, especially for users who use devices with both operating systems. With these updates, Apple once again demonstrates its commitment to the security and stability of its products and offers users important updates to get the most out of their devices. The quick response to security issues underscores Apple's commitment to protecting the privacy and security of its users. These updates make Apple devices more secure and powerful, improving the user experience while minimizing potential security risks. Are you looking for new accessories?
