Apple originally introduced the HomePod at WWDC 2017. The market launch was planned for December 2017. It only went on sale in Germany on June 18, 2018. Compared to the competition, Siri is lagging far behind.
Now the speaker is getting an update. The new HomePod OS brings functions such as direct phone calls and setting multiple timers.
Incoming calls are automatically forwarded to the HomePod if the user wants this. In addition, missed calls can now be checked via the smart speaker. The HomePod can dial numbers using voice commands or Siri can access the contacts directly. Thanks to the update, it will also be possible to set multiple timers - this could be particularly popular with amateur cooks. Automation is also no problem.
Routines can be enabled using Siri shortcuts. For example, the command "Hey Siri, good morning" would activate a standard morning procedure. Also new: it is now possible to ask Siri for song lyrics. The update will be released on September 17th.
