The messaging application Telegram will soon receive a new feature that many users will like – video calls within groups.
Telegram has in a recent blog post announced a new feature that enables video calls in groups. The focus is on security. The announcement states:
You may be wondering what to do next. The current global lockdown shows that there is a strong demand for video communication. Video calling today is similar to messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either safe or usable, but not both. We would like to change that, so we will focus on being able to offer safe and convenient group video calling later this year.
Over 400 million users per month
The unveiling of the new feature comes almost simultaneously with Facebook's announcement that it wants to introduce "Rooms", a service that competes with Zoom and Facetime. Telegram is currently considered the most secure messaging platform in the world, so the focus on encryption is not surprising. When the feature will actually be introduced remains unknown for now. New features for the macOS application were later revealed. The blog post states:
Telegram for macOS users will get the shared media menu in the redesigned profile pages. Those with lots of folders will be happy to see the new folder sidebar, with similar icons to those seen on Telegram Desktop.
Furthermore, Telegramthat the service now has over 400 million active users per month. Last year, there were 300 million. This means that the growth is above expectations. If you would like to read the full article, you can find it below. (Photo by New Africa / Bigstockphoto)
