Apple has unveiled its new Live Apple Music Sessions, starting with performances by Carrie Underwood and Tenille Townes.
The Apple Music Sessions feature artists performing a short selection of tracks, typically their own hits and covers of their personal favorites. Each piece is recorded in spatial audio and also presented as a video. The spatial audio recordings and "accompanying live music videos" are set to be recorded in Apple Music's studios around the world. The first two artists, Carrie Underwood and Tenille Townes, were both recorded at Apple Music's new studios in Nashville, Tennessee. Carrie Underwood said:
Being in the studio with Apple Music was an incredible experience and I'm excited to share these unique, stripped-down versions of three songs I love with my fans.
Apple Music Sessions to be expanded to other genres
They are her own songs "Ghost Story" and "Blown Away" as well as a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Mama, I'm Coming Home". Underwood continued:
I've always been a fan of Ozzy Osbourne and "Mama, I'm Coming Home" is one of my favorite songs. I always thought it felt very country and I've wanted to cover it for a long time. This was a great opportunity for me to finally do it. I hope we made Ozzy proud and that he likes it.
In her Apple Music session, Tenille Townes performed her own songs “Same Road Home” and “Somebody's Daughter.” She also covered “At Last” by Etta James. Apple has announcedthat Ronnie Dunn and Ingrid Andress, as well as other country artists, will also be included in the future. The company plans to expand Apple Music Sessions to other genres as well.
