Apple today launched a new replacement program for the Smart Battery Case of the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max due to charging issues.
Apple has now officially launched an exchange program for its own charging case, as it appears to have problems charging in some cases. The support document states:
Apple has determined that some Smart Battery Case models for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR may have charging issues. An affected Smart Battery Case may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:
– The Smart Battery Case does not charge or only charges sporadically when connected to a power source.
– The Smart Battery Case does not charge the iPhone or only charges sporadically.
In the announcement, Apple explains that affected units were manufactured and sold between January 2019 and October 2019. However, this is not a safety issue - so there is no risk of fire or anything similar. Defective models will be replaced free of charge by Apple or an authorized Apple service provider.
Notice: This program is valid for affected Smart Battery Case models for two years after the first retail sale of the model. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
