On December 11, 2017, Apple announced via press release that it wanted to take over the music recognition service Shazam. The EU then expressed concerns that Apple could become too powerful.
The EU Commission needed nine months to review the takeover. In the end, the EU competition authorities approved the purchase. Apple has now announced the first innovation via a press release. Shazam will be ad-free for all customers. It remains to be seen when exactly this will happen - Apple did not give an exact date. Nevertheless, the whole thing is expected to happen soon.
What exact plans the iKonzern has for the music recognition service remains unknown. Apple could gain greater advantages in music recognition by implementing the service directly into its own system. The elimination of advertising will certainly please all users. Shazam has over a billion downloads. The app is used over 20 million times a day.
