WhatsApp is changing the way the platform handles media sent in chats with the “self-deleting messages” feature enabled.
In the future, WhatsApp will no longer automatically save images and other visual media to your iPhone’s photo library if they appear in a chat in which the “Self-deleting messages” feature is activated, which reported WABetaInfo. The "Save to Camera Roll" option is now automatically disabled for self-deleting chats, meaning images, videos and GIFs won't be saved even if the general auto-save setting is enabled. The previous default of saving images from such chats to the Photos app was a mismatch given the privacy focus of self-deleting messages, so the change will likely be welcomed by those who rely on the feature to share sensitive media.
Self-deleting messages in WhatsApp: There's a catch
But beware! However, WhatsApp users can still manually save media that appears in self-deleting chats or even take a screenshot of the chat history, so what you send using the feature can be saved by the recipient even after the message has been deleted. Another change in WhatsApp that WABetaInfo points out concerns the drawing interface: The blur tool now appears at the bottom of the screen, where it can be found next to two new drawing pens. The change to the way WhatsApp handles media in self-deleting messages is now being rolled out to all users on iOS. It remains unclear when the changes to the drawing interface will be made available to all users. (Photo by DenPhoto / Bigstockphoto)
