This evening, Apple surprisingly released iOS 14.4.1, iPadOS 14.4.1, watchOS 7.3.2 and macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 to all users.
Apple released a new update for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac this evening. The new versions can be downloaded over-the-air as usual. According to Apple, iOS 14.4.1 contains important security improvements for iPhone users. The update description states:
This update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.
Apple instructs users to visit the Apple security website for further details to visit.
iOS 14.4.1 & Co.: Important security updates
According to the company, a vulnerability has been fixed in WebKit, the browser engine used by Safari and third-party browsers on iOS. It states:
- Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)
- Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution
- Description: A memory corruption issue was fixed with improved validation.
- CVE-2021-1844: Clément Lecigne from Google's Threat Analysis Group, Alison Huffman from Microsoft Browser Vulnerability Research
In addition to iOS 14.4.1, the whole thing is said to affect iPadOS 14.4.1 and macOS Big Sur 11.2.3. iOS 14.4 was released last month with a handful of new features for iPhone users, including updates to the camera app and bug fixes.
