Apple has announced that iPhone 14 emergency calling via satellite will officially go live today.
Apple announced the feature at the iPhone 14 event in September and said it will officially roll out to customers in the U.S. and Canada in November. To use the feature, users must be running iOS 16.1 or later. At launch, satellite emergency calling will be available in the United States and Canada available and will be expanded to other countries in December. Emergency SOS via Satellite will be free for customers for the first two years, after which Apple plans to charge for the service.

With Satellite Emergency Calling, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models can send a message to emergency services via a satellite connection under "ideal conditions with a direct view of the sky and horizon."
