As expected, Apple introduced the third generation iPhone SE at the "Peek Performance" event. Find out what the new entry-level device can do and what innovations it offers below.
Apple hasn't changed much with the new iPhone SE, but that's the point of the product. This budget-friendly iPhone is aimed at consumers who want the cheapest iPhone possible while still wanting to buy a new device. Even though it's a new smartphone, it retains the same external design as the iPhone 8, which was released in 2017. This design is a selling point for some because it includes the classic Touch ID home button. The external design hasn't changed either. The third-generation iPhone SE has the same aluminum-glass design with rounded edges and a large chin. The 12MP single camera on the back uses the same components as before, but is more powerful thanks to the faster image signal processor in the A15 Bionic.
iPhone SE 3 specifications
The new iPhone SE is available in Midnight, Starlight and PRODUCT Red. It also features a more robust design and uses the same glass on the front and back as the iPhone 13. The iPhone SE 3 now also supports 5G connectivity and has a longer battery life thanks to the powerful A15 Bionic chip inside. Here are the highlights:
- 12 MP camera with Deep Fusion and powerful computational photography technology
- Support for photo styles, just like the iPhone 13
- Smart HDR 4
- IP67 water resistance
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, explained:
iPhone SE is an incredibly popular choice for our existing users and for new iPhone customers thanks to its iconic design, exceptional performance and affordable price. This year, we built the most powerful and longest-lasting iPhone SE yet, with improved battery life thanks to A15 Bionic, the same chip found in iPhone 13 that also unlocks advanced camera features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles and Deep Fusion. And with 5G, iPhone SE enables faster downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, real-time interactivity in apps, and more. Offering the latest generation of technology and performance at this price is something only Apple can do.

The iPhone SE 3 will be available from March 18th, with pre-orders starting on March 11th. It will cost $429, making it $30 more expensive than the second generation iPhone SE - German prices are not known at this time. (Image: Apple)
