Apple introduced Apple Silicon in three Mac devices called M1 in October 2020. Now the second generation, the M2 chip, has been introduced.
Apple has now officially launched the second generation of its custom Mac chip architecture presented, which goes by the name M2. The M2 chip first appears in the brand new MacBook Air and an updated MacBook Pro 13″.
Apple Silicon: This is the M2 chip
According to Apple, CPU performance is 18% faster. You can now use 50% more memory bandwidth than the M1, with up to 24GB of RAM total. Plus, there are now a total of 10 GPU cores, with up to 35% better graphics performance than the M1.

M2 is built on the same five-nanometer process as M1, Apple said. The company says the M2 chip can compete with high-end laptop PC chips at a fraction of the performance, offering 90% of the performance of a 12-core Intel CPU at a quarter of the power consumption. (Image: Apple)
