The social media giant Facebook introduced a new payment method this evening – Facebook Pay.
In recent weeks, there have been indications that something new is to be expected from Facebook. Now the time has come. The company has officially announced Facebook Pay. The new payment method is supposed to work similarly to Apple Pay. The new website presents the new payment option under the title “Facebook Pay is a seamless, secure way to pay with the apps you already use.” It states:
With Facebook Pay, paying is easy. Open your favorite app – Facebook, Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp – and add your payment information and you're ready to go.

Facebook Pay is specifically designed for making digital payments within Facebook applications - i.e. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Users can use it to buy products or book services and donate to charity. They can also send money to friends without having to pay fees. However, paying in stores is not possible. It remains to be seen whether this will change at some point.
Facebook Pay is a seamless and secure way to make payments on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. You enter your payment details once and then use Facebook Pay across all apps. A PIN or device biometrics can be added to secure each payment. Facebook Pay is also a way to view payment history, manage payment information and access customer support.
